⚠️ Important

We are currently running a time-critical emergency crewing process for the rotations around June 23 – August 4 and July 12 – August 18 (medical doctor) as recently announced via social media.

If you are interested and available for these rotations, and have already applied via this crewing form within the past 6 weeks, you do not need to submit a new application. To speed up the process, simply email us to announce your availability: crewing-gaza(a)cadus.org

Background

As a humanitarian organization, CADUS has been working in Gaza since February 2024 to support local capacities in their emergency relief operations. Our current program focuses on complementing existing MedEvac capacities, providing medical training and working alongside national and local partners within Field Hospitals.

Key facts for all Positions:

1. 5 weeks in country/4-5 weeks out (except Tech/Log: 6 weeks in/5 weeks out) 2. Flexibility is required as rotation timings can change. You can clarify this with HR at the final stages of the recruitment process. 3. monthly paid (TSP based) 4. single rotations possible, multiple rotations preferred 5. 5 years experience for medics/doctors after graduating from your initial medical degree 6. Humanitarian/Austere environment experience preferred and prioritised

Please note: a high level of flexibility is required, as entry and exit procedures are outside of our control and may change at short notice

CADUS currently provides four services in Gaza:

MedEvac - ground ambulance medical evacuations of civilian patients, both within and out of Gaza; staffing varies by mission and may include physicians, paramedics/ nurses, and local staff; capabilities include critical care transport services (i.e., infusions, mechanical ventilation, etc.); missions often involve providing medical oversight of and care for many patients for 12+ hours preceding the mission (in addition to care provided to patient(s) on the crew's ambulance).

CasEvac - evacuating sick or injured international aid workers out of Gaza when requested to do so by the WHO.

Emergency Response Team (ERT) - medical support for UN and other INGO missions; medics assigned to this task will be expected to act independently and with limited resources in the event of an emergency, this could involve treating injuries out of a bag in the seat of an armoured vehicle and/ or managing patients for prolonged period of time until evacuation is possible; skill set includes advanced airway management (i.e., intubation), chest decompression, administration of emergency medications, etc.

PRCS Field Hospital Emergency Department - clinical support at the Palestine Red Crescent Field Hospital in southern Gaza; the CADUS team (which includes some local staff) attends to patients in the emergency room; resources are limited, therefore clinicians should be comfortable with performing interventions independently (from IV cannulation, chest drain insertion and advanced airway management as examples), interpreting X-rays without a radiologist, etc.; candidates with POCUS knowledge & experience will be prioritised.

While some staffing for the project is specific to one of the roles describes above, all staff will be expected to fill in on any of the services as needed. For that reason, clinicians with a wide breadth of experience will be prioritized.

It is also worth noting that this scope of work as outline above can change with short notice. There may be extended periods of time on "stand-by" for certain missions and thus long periods without direct clinical work. Therefore a tolerance for down time is a must.

Guiding Principles

All activities are based on the Humanitarian Imperative and the Code of Conduct in Disaster Relief. The position is subject to CADUS policies, guidelines, and legal frameworks. CADUS maintains a strict no-weapons policy, and staff are expected to represent the organization with professionalism, neutrality, and respect at all times.
