Position: Laboratory Technician – part time

Job Location: Jordan – Mafraq

Primary Point of Contact: Senior Health Project Officer

Working area: Zaatari camp

Number of positions open: 1

Type of Hiring Part time – 12 days per month.

  • General objective of the position:

    The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests in accordance with approved laboratory standards and procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and contributing to the continuous improvement of quality management systems. The position supports the provision of high-quality laboratory services to refugees and other beneficiaries seeking healthcare services at SAMS Medical Center..

    Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Implement laboratory work plans and procedures established by the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor to ensure high-quality and accurate laboratory services.
  • Collect blood and other biological specimens from patients using approved procedures while ensuring patient safety, proper identification, labeling, and specimen integrity.
  • Prepare, process, store, and transport laboratory samples according to established protocols and quality standards.
  • Perform all laboratory tests available within the laboratory according to professional qualifications, technical competencies, and established standards.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment and medical devices are functional, properly maintained, calibrated, and ready for use.
  • Conduct routine quality control procedures and equipment verification to ensure compliance with laboratory standards and accuracy of results.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, including proper storage of samples, reagents, and laboratory materials according to required temperature and safety conditions.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of biological samples and laboratory waste in accordance with infection prevention and waste management protocols.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, including patient information, test requests, laboratory results, inventory logs, and quality control documentation.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and consumables, maintain stock records, and promptly report shortages to support uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory activity reports, including the number and types of tests performed, sample volumes, quality control results, equipment status, and stock utilization.
  • Compile and submit statistical reports and laboratory performance indicators to support program monitoring, donor reporting, and organizational requirements.
  • Report abnormal, critical, or urgent laboratory findings to the responsible healthcare provider in a timely manner and document all communications appropriately.
  • Document equipment malfunctions, quality concerns, incidents, and corrective actions, and report them to the Laboratory Supervisor for follow-up.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis, and preparation of laboratory reports required by SAMS management, health authorities, and donors.
  • Train and supervise laboratory assistants, newly recruited laboratory staff, and medical laboratory students as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings, educational sessions, and professional development activities related to laboratory medicine and diagnostics.
  • Contribute to resolving technical and administrative issues affecting laboratory operations and service quality.
  • Adhere to professional ethics, SAMS policies, laboratory procedures, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Apply occupational health and safety standards and infection prevention measures to protect staff, patients, and the work environment.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the position.

    Mandatory Qualifications required

    Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory.
  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Lab technician
  • Languages

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
